INTERESTING FACTS:
Philip Burke meets Andy Warhol
In 1983, as Philip looked out the window of his studio in the West Village of New York City he spotted Andy Warhol walking on the street below. Being a fan of his, Philip ran down to the street to introduce himself. Warhol, a former acclaimed illustration artist complimented Philip for his illustration work in Vanity Fair Magazine and accepted Philip’s request to sit for him so that he could paint his portrait. It wasn’t until 1984 that Philip went to Warhol’s studio “The Factory”, in Union Square, to paint his portrait. Warhol sat for four and a half hours while Philip painted.
Philip has painted two portraits of Warhol. The first portrait can be viewed on our website and is currently for sale. The second portrait done later was given to Warhol as a gift and, is now part of the Warhol estate. The second portrait is available on our website in fine art giclee limited editions prints.

Natalie Cole’s reaction upon viewing her self portrait painted by Philip Burke…
“When I saw this in Rolling Stone, I couldn’t believe it. It was the most creative painting I have ever seen anyone do of me, usually they paint something that has already been done, like an album cover… This is what I like.”
